Vermeil (pronounced vermay) is gold plated sterling silver or pure silver.  The gold is usually of a high carat. Vermeil plating contains a lot more gold than regular gold plated pieces. A Vermeil piece of jewellery contains only precious metals which makes the pieces valuable. Vermeil jewellery will maintain the look of yellow gold for years (depending on the wear) without the price tag attached to solid gold pieces.
My gold vermeil pieces can be re-plated. I encourage anyone who has purchased gold plated jewellery from me that requires refinishing, to contact me for a quote.

Gold-filled is a quality alternative to solid gold. It is a fusion of a strong solid gold layer on the base metal using heat and pressure. Gold-filled is not to be confused with Gold Plated as there are 50 to 100 times more gold in a Gold-filled product than in a Gold Plated one (Gold-filled is legally required to contain 5% of solid gold by weight). Gold-filled is much more valuable and durable than gold-plated; it does not flake, fade nor change colour. Anyone who can wear Gold can wear Gold-filled without any risk of allergy (even for earrings!). Gold-filled jewellery is an economical alternative to solid gold and can be washed easily.
